Cavities

Dental cavities are perhaps the most common dental health issue there is. Almost all of us have experienced at least a small cavity at one time or another in our lives. Cavities are especially common in young children because the enamel of baby teeth is much weaker than that of adult teeth.

What are Cavities?

Cavities are areas on the teeth where the enamel has been damaged or worn away. As plaque and bacteria continue to break down these vulnerable areas, small holes will develop in the tooth creating a cavity. It’s important to get cavities treated right away because, if left untreated, they can develop into tooth decay or even a tooth infection.

Common Causes Of Cavities

Below are a few of the most common causes of cavities to look out for:

  • Failing to brush often enough or for long enough
  • Too many sugary drinks like sodas or juices
  • Bacteria in the mouth
  • Frequent snacking without brushing in between
  • A combination of any the above factors
