Spring is here and your garden is ready to bloom after the cold winter months. Below are a few tips on how to make sure your garden is healthy and beautiful during the spring months.
Prune – If you didn’t already prune in the winter, it’s time to do some trimming.
Clean The Beds – Clean out any winter debris, leaves, weeds, or winter mulch. Starting with a clean garden bed makes planting much easier.
Perform Maintenance – Make any repairs to your garden area early on, so you can focus more on your plants. This is also a great time to do some cleaning around the yard to start with a clear slate.
Plant Vegetables – Early spring is the time to plant hardier veggies, such as potatoes, onions, lettuce, and artichokes.
Bird Feeders – Mid spring is a great time to take down your bird feeders, give them a good cleaning, and store them away for fall.
Plant Annuals – If you plan to plant any hardy annuals, mid-spring is the best time to do it.
Apply Mulch – If you begin to apply mulch early one, you won’t need to worry much about weeding in the summer.
Deadhead Your Bulbs – Remove any of the spent blossoms from your spring-flowering plants. Don’t remove the foliage, let it die back naturally.
Purchase New Plants – Late spring is the best time to go shopping for new plants. Make sure you pick plants that haven’t bloom yet, as these tend to be hardier plants.
Prune Spring-Flowering Plants – In order to avoid pruning healthy blossoms, wait until after the plants have bloomed to trim them back.
