Healthy Halloween Habits for Your Child’s Teeth
With Halloween coming up, most kids are getting excited about candy and costumes! Halloween is probably the most difficult holiday to stay away from sugar, mostly because it’s centered around candy. Luckily, there are a few ways you can help your children maintain good oral health without sacrificing the festivities!
Healthy Halloween Habits
Below are a few things you can do to keep your kids’ teeth health during this Halloween season:
- Lots of Water – Water will help to keep your family hydrated but is also a great way to wash away the harmful acids, plaque, and leftover candy debris that may be sticking on the teeth after a Halloween candy binge. Keep lots of water on hand during Halloween to encourage your family to drink it.
- Good Oral Hygiene – Obviously, it’s even more important to be vigilant about your at-home oral hygiene routine during Halloween. This means brushing at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing every day, and receiving a dental checkup and a teeth cleaning after the holiday.
- Eat Dinner First – Before sending your children out trick-or-treating, make sure they eat a big, healthy dinner. This will make it less likely that they’ll come home and binge-eat all their Halloween candy in one night! Family dinner is also a great time to go over the Halloween safety rules with your children as well.
Putting the above tips into effect this year can help you and your family get through this Halloween without suffering a dental cavity. From everyone here at SpringRock Dental, we want to wish you a safe and happy Halloween!
