Your Dental Health and Drug Addiction

Young woman with troubled look on her faceAddiction is a real disease affecting the lives of many. Addiction to drugs, especially methamphetamines, can cause damage to your overall health, but can also do a number on your teeth, mouth, and gum tissue. But while your addiction can be overcome, the damage to your smile may not be reversed.

It’s very important that those battling with addiction receive proper dental care to help make sure their teeth don’t become even more damaged than they may already be. If you are currently battling addiction and are concerned about your oral health, we here at SpringRock Dental may be able to help.

How We Can Help

If our dentist suspects the use of drugs, there are a few things we can keep an eye out for. These symptoms of drug use include the look of being malnourished and distinctive patterns of tooth decay on the teeth.

If drug or methamphetamine use is suspected or confirmed, there are a few things we’ll do to help you care for your teeth that have been recommended by the American Dental Association. These include:

  • A thorough examination and assessment will be performed, and we will go over your dental and medical history.
  • If you are receptive, we will provide contact information for local rehab centers or clinics.
  • Preventative measures will be taken, including fluoride treatments to protect the teeth.
  • Lastly, we will take time to educate you about the dental and medical risks associated with drug use.

If you are currently suffering from an addiction to drugs and are concerned about your dental health, please don’t hesitate to contact SpringRock Dental today. We provide all of our patients with a comfortable, compassionate, judgment-free atmosphere where you can discuss your concerns and be heard and taken seriously. Please contact our Aurora, Colorado family dental office today.
